What Wisdom Demands
Qods Day is reminiscent of the glorious days of the 1979 Islamic Revolution. When our people finally freed themselves from the yoke of despotism of the former monarchy, they did not remain content with what they had achieved. Soon after they set out to redefine for themselves the lofty goals and values of freedom, justice and independence.
As such, the decades of Palestinian suffering at the hands of the western-backed occupying power could not be left out of the domain of the Iranian nation’s revolutionary agenda.
Then countries and governments of various sizes were focused on their own interests by either siding with Palestinians or the Israeli regime.
It was only natural that Iranians who had arisen and were strongly influenced by religious thinking, demand and orientation in putting an end to the authoritarian Pahlavi rule, would stop siding with Israel in favor of the long-oppressed Palestinians.
This is why the late Palestinian Leader Yasser Arafat was the first international leader who was received warmly in Tehran in the early days of the revolution and delivered a speech at the prestigious Tehran University.
Pundits and politicians in the strategic region will recall that from the very outset the Islamic system in Iran made known that the biased, one-sided and dangerous western prescriptions for the Muslim Middle East would not work.
Tehran openly challenged the West’s overt and covert objectives in the region and the Palestinian problem was at the heart of it.
In fact, Iran still has deep differences with many powerful countries because of its moral support for and solidarity with the Palestinians and their legitimate cause.
The ’state of Israel’ since its British-engineered birth has been illegitimate, illegal and in breach of international law. Its past experience and history of civilized nations is anything to go by, freedom-loving peoples will never assimilate the bitter reality that Israel was created because the big powers wanted it.
The crux of the matter is that most regional states have so far refused to recognize the usurper state. Despotic rulers in Tel Aviv have blood on their hands.
Because of Israel’s atrocities and being wedded to violence, the possibility of pro-western regional states recognizing it in the near future is dim. Israel and its destabilizing polices for more than half century have contributed terribly well to hatred in the Muslim-Arab world against itself.
It needs mention that the international community, whatever that means in today’s unjust world, has not done anything important to restore calm to our volatile region in which the West has a great economic and security interest.
The point is that the international community has never expressed a strong will and determination to stop the murder of innocent people in the Middle East or find a workable solution to the mind-boggling activities of its ally (Israel). Thus, one cannot help think that the big powers want the Middle East to be in a permanent state of turmoil.
It seems no practical solution to the Palestinian-Israel conflict will be found in the foreseeable future, and if the US-led western regimes continue to prop up Israel’s lethal power, the situation could become worse.
Maybe one day the well informed, learned and wise on the planet will pool their minds and find a lasting solution to the Middle East conflict without war or violence.
Israel has the support of almost all big players on the world scene, but no country really supports the Palestinians nor promotes their cause.
True, at times some rallies are held to express support and solidarity with the Palestinians. But conventional wisdom has it that such expressions are simply not enough. All those who care for global peace and security now have a duty to rise and make their governments hear their voices loud and clear.
This is the least they could do for the plight of the traumatized Palestinians and the future of their own children.
